TT legend Charlie Williams, who with an Isle of Man TT career spanning 15 years, won no fewer than 10 races as well as amassing 20 podium places.
The TT however was just a part of the overall picture. Contracted to the Honda Britain Endurance team from 1973 to 1978, he won many endurance races including the Spa and Barcelona 24hour races, Nurburgring 8hrs, Zaandvoort 6hrs, Thruxton and Brands Hatch 1000 kilometre races, and was twice runner up in the European Endurance championship.
World championship GP’s were another facet of his career, winning 5th Place in both the Dutch TT, and the British GP at Silverstone.
With wins and lap records at just-about every British short circuit, 3 wins at the NW 200 in Ireland and a win at the Ulster GP, it was a very successful career culminating in winning the Formula 2 World Championship in 1980 on a Yamaha 350LC.
Since retiring from racing completely in 1984 (finishing second in his last TT), Charlie still maintains a keen TT interest and has worked on Radio TT broadcasting both commentary and chat shows for over 20 years.
